| Registration |
Registration forms are due by September 24th, 2008
Accept these rules and regulations by pressing the "Accept" button on the bottom of this page, and you will be taken to the Registration Form. There are two ways to complete your registration:
- Fill out the form online and you will be registered automatically to sell at the fair; or
- Print out the form, fill in the information, and mail it via regular mail to the Chairperson.
(Please do NOT include your registration fee with your registration form.)
|
| Registration Fee |
The registration fee is $10 per Seller. The registration fee will be deducted automatically from the Seller's sales proceeds before the check is mailed. |
| Membership Dues |
Membership dues for 2008-2009 must be paid in full prior to registration to be considered a member seller. |
| Working Member Seller |
A Working Member Seller is a MMOTA-Founding member who:
- Is a member paid in full prior to the sale date;
- works the entire day of the sale (6:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) or has a substitute work in her stead; and
- sets up on Friday night and/or cleans up on Saturday afternoon.
|
| Non-Working Member Seller |
A Non-Working Member Seller is a MMOTA-Founding member, who is a member paid in full prior to the sale date and sells items at the sale, but can not work (or have a substitute work for her) the day of the sale and/or set up or clean up. |
| Non-Member Seller |
A Non-Member Seller is a person that is not a member of MMOTA-Founding but sells items at the sale and works the entire day of the sale (6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.). A paid member must sponsor a Non-Member Seller. |
| Sales Proceeds Percentage |
Working Member Sellers receive 90% sales proceeds.
Non-Working Member Sellers receive 50% of sales proceeds.
Non-Member Seller receives 80% of sales proceeds. |
| Set-up and Clean-up |
All Working Member Sellers must choose to either set up or clean up, or both if possible. The Cafeteria located in the rear of WHS will be open on Friday October 3rd, between the hours of 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. for set-up. Set-up consists of readying the hall for the sale by removing and/or rearranging tables, chairs, and other furniture, hanging signs, other preparations necessary for Saturday (completion is at the discretion of the sale co-chairs). Sellers are welcome to bring their items to be sold and may put them out after all set-up work is completed (approx 7:00pm). Sellers who are working Friday night will be allowed to shop once all set-up is complete (approx 8:15pm).
Once a Seller is finished putting out items on Saturday morning or cleaning up items on Saturday afternoon, that Seller should help others finish up in order to keep on schedule. Clean-up consists of clearing the hall of all sale items, replacing tables and chairs to original places, breaking down clothing racks, removal of signs and restoring the hall to its previous condition.
At the end of the sale, you may donate any or all unsold items. Please mark the back of your tags with a "D" if you wish to have that item donated. This will speed up the clean-up process.
All Sellers must sign out upon completion of final clean up. If a Seller has not participated in Friday night set-up and leaves the hall before clean-up is finished on Saturday afternoon, a $25.00 fee will be deducted from the sales proceeds of the Seller. |

- Working Member Seller/Non-Member Seller shopping time.

- Clean up, including removing unsold items and breaking down tables. ALL items not removed by 2:00 p.m. will be put in the donation area.
When arriving on Saturday morning, please sign in to register for your place in line for shopping. The earlier you arrive for set-up, the higher your place in line for shopping (i.e., first person to sign the sign-in sheet will have first place in line (after sale co-chairs) to enter the hall and so on). This is an incentive for Sellers to arrive and set up early. Also, members have been injured during the mad dash in the past. Having a more orderly entrance into the hall will hopefully prevent injuries from happening. Remember - early shopping time is for Working Member Sellers/Non Member Sellers only. No spouses or children are allowed to shop unless they are working the sale. |
| Price Tags and Tagging |
All items must be tagged before Saturday morning set-up. Sellers are not allowed to tag items during set-up.
Price tag supplies are available for purchase and pick up from the Chairpersons. Prices for supplies are as follows:
- Price Tags with Barbs (per 250) $6.00
- Tagging Guns $14.00
Price tags and guns may also be purchased at:
- Joslin Displays
- 10 Upton Drive, Suite #8
- Wilmington, MA
- 1-800-325-1030
- www.joslindisplaysinc.com
Please be sure that all price tags are complete and legible. If a tag is incomplete or illegible, the amount paid for the item will go to MMOTA-Founding. Be sure to include the following on all tags:
- Your name
- Brief description
- Size
- Price
Both the top and bottom portions of the tags for each item must be filled out.
Price tags must be attached to clothing, shoes and accessories by tagging gun barbs, string or pins.
Price tags must be attached to equipment, toys, books, etc. with heavy tape. Large equipment (i.e., cribs, changing tables, strollers, etc.) must also have a large equipment tag that will be available on Friday night or Saturday morning.
Untagged items: If circumstances permit, an attempt will be made to find out to whom the item belongs and how much to charge. However, if it is not possible, the item will be priced at $1.00 and marked as MMOTA in the case of clothing and small items. Large ticket items will not be sold and will be placed aside to be collected later or donated.
All sale tags will be available from the treasurer at a future general meeting for review. If you would like your tags mailed to you, please forward a SASE to the treasurer. It's good practice to check your tags to ensure the correct amounts were included in your sales precedes check. |
| Pricing Guidelines |
All items must be priced in dollars and 25-cent increments. Any item not marked appropriately will be rounded down to the nearest $.25 increment. For example, if an item is marked $1.69, the amount charged the customer and credited to the Seller will be rounded down to $1.50.
As for how much to price items, individual members are solely responsible for setting the prices for their items. However, keep in mind that both club members and the general public are shopping for bargains, can not try on any clothing or test out equipment, and all items are final sale. That being said, the general rule of thumb for pricing clothing for newcomers are as follows:
- Shirts/Sweaters $1.00 - $4.00
- Pants/Skirts $1.00 - $5.00
- Dresses $2.00 - $8.00
- Coats/Jackets $3.00 - $10.00
- Shoes/Sneakers $1.00 - $5.00
- Boots $2.00 - $7.00
- Hats/Mittens/Gloves $0.50 - $3.00
Used equipment is often priced at one half (or less) of its original purchase price.
These prices are not set in stone; this is only a general guide for Sellers who are unsure of pricing. Bear in mind that the higher the price, the higher quality and better the condition the item should be. Another thing to keep in mind while pricing is that some Sellers price their items on the lower end of the scale to ensure that their items will sell quickly.
If you are selling an item priced more than $20.00, you must register the item with the Chairpersons when you bring the item into the sale location. |
| Sales Proceeds Checks |
Sale proceed checks will be issued within four to six weeks after the sale. An example of a proceeds check amount for a Working Member Seller follows:
-
| Gross Sales Amount | $100.00 |
| Less $10 Registration Fee | - 10.00 |
| Subtotal | 90.00 |
| Less 10% for Founding Chapter | - 9.00 |
| Sales Proceeds Check Amount | $81.00 |
If Seller believes she has received an incorrect amount for her sales (i.e., seller sold a large-ticket item for $200 and accounting misread the tag and credited the Seller for $2.00), Seller must contact the Treasurer, Chairpersons and President and report the alleged error immediately. Every effort will be made to rectify the matter fairly. |
| Displaying of Items |
Tables are available for displaying clothing, toys, books, videos, bedding, and accessories. Hanging racks are available for displaying coats, party dresses, special occasion clothing, twin sets, costumes and maternity. Founding has a limited supply of hangers, if possible please supply your own. Clothing tables and racks will be arranged by separating the girl/boy areas and then by size in each area.
Large equipment such as cribs, high chairs, strollers, large toys, etc. are kept in a separate area from the rest of the sale and will have a separate check out area. These items must be paid for before being removed from the Large Equipment area. Small toys, books and accessories are also kept in their own individual areas.
Please be sure to distribute your items to the correct sales area.
For items in zip-lock bags, all seals should be stapled, barbed or taped so items cannot be removed.
The following items are not allowed to be sold:
- Stuffed animals
- Used pacifiers
- Bottles with used nipples
- Used undergarments
- Recalled or defective items
- Car seats more than three (3) years old
There have been new regulations and numerous recalls regarding the safety of car seats. Please check the dates on car seat tags before bringing them to the sale. If you have car seat or any other item that you know is a recalled or defective item, please do not attempt to sell it at the sale. Selling defective or recalled merchandise is not fair or responsible to the general public, club members and MMOTA-Founding Chapter.
All items must be in good, saleable condition. Items should not be ripped, stained, soiled or otherwise damaged. At the discretion of the co-chairs any items that are in unsaleable condition will be pulled from the selling floor. If clothing cannot be worn or equipment cannot be used upon purchase, then it is NOT a saleable item. If you would not put it on or use it for your child (ren), please do not try to sell it to others. There have been numerous complaints from previous sales where people buy an item that, on closer inspection, is in disrepair or unusable. MMOTA-Founding Chapter strives to preserve the integrity of its sales in order to ensure that the general public and other members will return to future sales. |
| Hoarding and Agressive Sales |
Hoarding clothing, equipment or any other item is strictly prohibited. Following are examples of "hoarding":
- Stacking items together during set-up time for an easy sweep into your bag;
- Hiding desired items on another table or under other things so other members will not have a chance to see or buy them.
If a member is found hoarding, for the first offense the member will be assessed a 50% penalty on the hoarded items from her sales proceeds. If a second offense occurs, the member will not be allowed to participate in future sales. Remember: the sales are for the benefit of all members, not for a select few.
Members may not actively "push" their own items. While the sale is in progress, members may not aggressively push their own items over others. You may certainly answer questions and you are welcome to reduce your prices, but you may not bargain with shoppers in order that they may purchase your items over another member's. |
| Terms of Payment |
While the sale is cash and carry only for the general public, MMOTA-Founding Chapter members are permitted to pay for their purchases by personal check. There will be a $25.00 fee for returned checks, and the offending member will not be allowed to pay by check at future sales. |
| Donations Area |
There will be an area for donations. If your donation is tax deductible, receipts are available. Items put into the donation area are for that purpose only. Members are not allowed to rummage through donated items for their taking. |
| Missing or Damaged Items |
MMOTA-Founding Chapter is not responsible for any item unaccounted for, damaged, missing or placed in the donation area at the end of the sale and will not reimburse any Seller for any such item. |
